Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath and U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, both from Georgia, introduced a resolution commemorating the 40 years of service that the Weather Channel has provided to the American people. Since its launch on May 2, 1982, the Weather Channel’s tireless efforts to keep viewers safe, informed, and entertained are deserving of recognition and celebration.
Rep. Lucy McBath partnered with the Weather Channel in a PSA campaign to raise awareness of the need for severe weather preparedness.
“The Weather Channel has worked tirelessly to protect, inform and prepare the people of Georgia’s Sixth District and the American people for emergencies, disasters and everyday weather,” said McBath. “They have helped save countless lives by reaching millions of viewers and preparing them and their families to face some of the toughest challenges in our nation’s history.”
“The Weather Channel is a trustworthy media organization that I have relied upon as a resource since serving in the U.S. Air Force, and during my days spent as a private aviator. For forty years, they have provided consistent, in-depth analysis of the weather, allowing Georgians in the Eleventh District, and Americans across the country to make vital decisions when faced with inclement weather. Happy 40th anniversary to the Weather Channel,” said Loudermilk.
“We are honored that The Weather Channel is being recognized by Congress for its contributions to public safety and severe weather preparedness,” said Tom O'Brien, President of Weather Group and Executive Vice President of Allen Media Group. “As The Weather Channel celebrates its 40th anniversary, the network is more committed than ever to its mission of educating viewers about the science behind weather and providing life-saving information to help keep them safe.”
