Sandy Springs, GA — This week, Representative Lucy McBath (D-Marietta) welcomed women veterans for a roundtable discussion at her Sandy Springs office. McBath expressed her gratitude to all the women in attendance for providing valuable feedback on the services provided by organizations and areas where women veterans need additional care.
“I was honored to gather together for a discussion,” McBath said. “It is estimated that the total number of women veterans in Georgia will continue to grow over the next decade – that’s why I am committed to doing everything I can to make sure that women’s needs are a priority for the Department of Veterans Affairs and advocating for those who have sacrificed and served this country.”
The group discussed pressing healthcare needs at the VA, barriers to treatment for military sexual trauma, and the growing population of women veterans in the metropolitan Atlanta region. McBath was joined by women veterans and advocates from the Marietta Veteran’s Center, Women Veteran’s Social Justice, Healing 4 Heroes, Georgia Military Women, and The Veteran’s Center, Inc. The Atlanta VA Medical Center has over 20,000 women veterans enrolled in care, which is more than any other VA Medical Center in the country. The women veteran population in Georgia is projected to reach 108,000 in 2030 and 123,000 by 2045.
The roundtable followed a tour of the new VA clinic in Northeast Cobb County, where McBath met with Director Ann Brown and clinic staff about the importance of community-based outreach clinics and new telehealth technologies. Veterans in need of assistance with a federal case are encouraged to contact McBath’s Georgia office.
