Duluth, GA — Today, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-07) announced that The Georgia Wellness Group, Inc. DBA Obria Medical Clinics is a recipient of a $445,500 award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funding will be used to expand Obria Medical Clinics’ evidence-based programs focused on sexual risk avoidance education. Funding for this application was requested by McBath in a letter of support to the Administration for Children and Families in June.

“Our community organizations play an important role in implementing Georgia’s strategy to support the health of our families and decrease the teen birth rate,” McBath said. “This investment in Obria Medical Clinics’ work will enable them to extend their reach to fill in the gaps and reach young people who need help the most. I was proud to support this successful grant application, and I look forward to seeing the added impact this award will have on their excellent reputation in the state.”

“Obria Medical Clinics is honored to be a recipient of the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education Federal Grant for a second cycle,” said Robin Mauck, Executive Director. “Our award will enable us to expand our Positive Youth Development Program, Empowered, transforming the lives of youth in our community by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for making healthy relationship decisions. We are grateful to Congresswoman Lucy McBath and her support for this endeavor and eagerly look forward to continuing our impactful work in the community."

The grant comes from the Family and Youth Services Bureau within the Administration for Children and Families at HHS. With this funding from ACF, Obria Medical Clinics plans to expand their Empowered Program utilizing Love Notes 4.0 to underrepresented populations across communities in Gwinnett, DeKalb, Walton, and Barrow counties. The evidence-based program incorporates lessons on positive youth development and provides referrals to mental health and support services. It will provide services in middle and high schools, community youth programs, as well as a juvenile justice youth detention center.
