Washington, D.C. — Ahead of President Biden’s first State of the Union address, Congresswoman Lucy McBath reiterated her support for President Biden’s leadership on the world stage in the midst of unprecedented and unprovoked Russian aggression against the people of Ukraine. She offered the following words of support as the President prepares to address the recent invasion as part of his remarks this evening.

“The world stands with Ukraine,” McBath said. “The world stands in awe of the bravery and heroism of the Ukrainian people, the civilians protecting their homeland, and the everyday citizens defending their families, their country, and their democracy. And we, the United States of America, will continue to stand with our Allies and provide additional military, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.”

Congresswoman McBath underscored her ongoing priorities as President Biden marks his second year in office. McBath’s virtual guests to the address will be Kimberly Schneller and her eight year-old son, Evan. Evan lives with juvenile diabetes, and Kimberly’s husband is in remission with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Just last week, McBath introduced legislation that would cap the price of insulin at $35 per month.

“I came to Congress to protect the health and safety of all Americans–that means lowering prescription drug prices, making healthcare more affordable, and putting an end to gun violence,” McBath said. “I want to thank President Biden and my colleagues in the House for fighting to keep our families safe over the past year, and I look forward to continuing that work and all we must still do to lower costs for families, protect our children, and move America forward.”

In addition to her priorities on making healthcare more affordable and lowering the price of prescription drugs, McBath addressed the urgent need to pass voting rights legislation. At a time when voting rights are under assault, both at home in Georgia and across the country, McBath has led the fight to protect voting rights for every community.

McBath has also focused on building a better America, growing the economy from the bottom up and the middle out, getting Americans back to work, and America back to normal. Through the American Rescue Plan, and now the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the country has experienced historic economic growth, supply chains are being strengthened, wages are going up, and businesses are investing right here in America.

Finally, as the mother of a child murdered by gun violence, McBath continues to call for common-sense gun violence prevention legislation that will help keep families safe and help save American lives.
