Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday evening, Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA) hosted a live, interactive Telephone Town Hall for community members to discuss health care concerns and to provide a legislative update on H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, which will benefit more than 600,000 people living in Georgia’s Sixth District. Almost 4,000 residents of the Sixth District joined the live, interactive event to hear from their representative, ask questions, and share their concerns about the rising costs of health care. Participant questions focused on Congress’s work to lower prescription drug costs and Rep. McBath’s work to protect care for those living with pre-existing conditions.

“As a two-time breast cancer survivor, I know the importance of having accessible, affordable health care and prescription drugs. One of the reasons I came to Congress was to work on health care, and this community call was an important opportunity to hear directly from our neighbors,” said McBath. “The cost of health care in this country is out of control and one of the major drivers is the cost of medication. I always look forward to hearing from our neighbors back home, and I was glad to share the work we are doing to make sure health care is accessible, medication is affordable, and that Americans across the Sixth District are protected.”

H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, will allow Medicare to negotiate on behalf of the American people to bring down the price of drugs, to limit the amount Medicare beneficiaries are made to pay out of pocket, to stop prescription drug companies from senseless price increases, and to expand access to hearing, dental and vision for Medicare recipients.

A member of the House Judiciary Committee, McBath also voted on Wednesday to unanimously pass H.R. 5133, the Affordable Prescriptions for Patients Through Promoting Competition Act of 2019 and H.R. 3991, the Affordable Prescriptions for Patients Through Improvements to Patent Litigation Act of 2019, additional measures to protect affordable care.
