Washington, DC — This afternoon, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) voted to pass the National Apprenticeship Act, H.R. 8294, and reauthorize support of registered apprenticeships to better prepare future workers through hands-on training. The bill ensures Americans across the country are better prepared for the work of the twenty-first century and businesses are equipped with skilled and successful workforce at a time when our nation needs it most. H.R. 8294 passed with bipartisan support on a vote of 246-140.

“In the midst of our country’s worst economic crisis in decades, when millions have been left without a job, we are faced with the stark realization that we will need to prepare our country for the jobs of the future,” said McBath. “There is no doubt that for many Americans, these are dark economic times. In order to better serve them, we must invest in our workforce and invest in the American dream. By supporting registered apprenticeships, we not only uplift those taking part in the program, but we are also ensuring a better future for their families. The passage of this bill today is the first step in moving boldly forward in the face of an uncertain economy.”

H.R. 8294 reauthorizes one million apprenticeship programs through the year 2025 while streamlining standards for registered programs, encouraging employers to participate, and expanding recruitment efforts.
