McBath Statement on H.Res.719

September 19, 2025

Washington, DC – Following the passage of House Resolution 719, Representative Lucy McBath (GA-06) released the following statement:

“I came to Congress after my son was murdered by a man with a gun. I know the trauma that comes when someone is killed with a firearm. I carry it with me every day. I stood on the steps of the courthouse and forgave my son's killer. He did not share the morals or values that I was raising Jordan to have.

“As elected leaders, we must prioritize solutions to the horrific gun violence that took my son and took Charlie Kirk. This is not a partisan issue. Gun violence is terrorizing the American people. The resolution the House voted on today was an attempt to condone beliefs that many Americans found divisive and inflammatory. I could not support such a resolution.

“My work in Congress is about saving American lives—including protecting the Second Amendment and gun owners who follow the law. I remain deeply concerned about the state of our political discourse and increasing violence. No matter our views, political violence is never the answer.

“I will continue to pray for Charlie Kirk’s wife, children, and loved ones in the midst of their loss.”
