Sandy Springs, G.A. – On the tenth anniversary of the Citizens United decision, Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Marietta) announced that she has received an A+ rating for her work on campaign and election reform from the End Citizens United Action Fund as part of their legislative scorecard. Criteria for the scorecard included crucial votes and co-sponsorships protecting the rights of voters and limiting the influence of corporations and dark money in politics.

“It’s our duty in Congress to bring the voices of our communities to Washington,” said McBath. “Our government works best when it represents the needs of the American people, not special interests. I’m incredibly honored to receive this rating, and am proud to have worked together with my colleagues to make progress to strengthen the framework of our democracy.”

"Congresswoman McBath knows our democracy works best when every voice is heard and counted, regardless of wealth or political connections. She has been a champion of policies to end the dominance of special interest money in politics and we're proud to give her an 'A' on our 2019 legislative scorecard,” said Tiffany Muller, President of the End Citizens United Action Fund.

McBath’s work on campaign and election reform includes co-sponsoring:

  • H.R. 1, the For the People Act, a comprehensive government reform measure to address the influence of dark, special interest money in politics, impose higher ethics standards on public officials, and make it easier for Americans to vote.
    • This legislation includes H.R. 1535, Rep. McBath’s Election Official Integrity Act, which increases accountability and prohibits campaign activities by certain election administration officials.
  • H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
  • H.R. 2722, the SAFE Act, an election security bill authorizing a $600 million Election Assistance Commission (EAC) grant program to assist states in modernizing their election infrastructure.
  • H.R. 2977, the DISCLOSE Act, which implements additional disclosure requirements for corporations, labor organizations, and Super PACs.
  • H.R. 4617, the SHIELD Act, a bipartisan election security bill to prevent foreign interference in our elections and defend the integrity of our voting systems.
  • H.J.Res. 2, the Democracy For All Amendment, a joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing Congress and the states to set reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money by candidates and others to influence elections.
