Duluth, GA — Today, Congresswoman Lucy McBath (D-GA) announced a $6,120,067 grant award from the Federal Highway Administration to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) through the FY22-23 Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program. In October of 2023, McBath led a letter of support to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg requesting favorable consideration of ARC’s proposed project. Supported by Georgia’s Democratic congressional delegation, the letter was signed by Reps. McBath, Hank Johnson, Nikema Williams, Sanford Bishop, and David Scott. Senator Jon Ossoff also sent a letter of support to Secretary Buttigieg last year.

“With this grant award, metro Atlanta is well-positioned to be a leader in electrification and an example for the nation,” McBath said. “I was proud to lead this letter with my congressional colleagues and demonstrate to Secretary Buttigieg how the Atlanta Regional Commission’s plan will widen the availability of charging infrastructure for Georgia’s growing electric vehicle industry while sending benefits to historically underserved communities.”

“As a region, we must prepare for the EV revolution that we know is coming, in a way that ensures no community is left behind,” said Anna Roach, Executive Director and CEO of the Atlanta Regional Commission. “We are grateful that the U.S. Department of Transportation chose to invest in the Atlanta region’s future.”

ARC’s grant application proposed to expand the region’s network of DC fast chargers along or near designated Alternative Fuels Corridors and provide free-of-charge Level 2 stations with an emphasis given to locations within or near disadvantaged communities. The project will expand Georgia’s community-based charging network by installing 300-400 charging ports at 75-100 existing charging sites. The application was developed on behalf of six million residents across 20 counties and over 100 municipalities in Georgia.
