Washington, DC— Today, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06), a member of the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, participated in a hearing on portions of H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act and the staggering price of prescription drugs in the United States.

 

“The cost of health care in this country is out of control and one of the major drivers is the cost of prescription drugs. Time and again, my constituents tell me that this is a top priority,” McBath said. “And how can you blame them? These are life-saving medications, and people are having to make unthinkable decisions about whether to purchase their medications or put food on the table and gas in the car.”

 

The hearing comes as part of a bold plan by the House of Representatives to make prescription drugs more affordable. H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act will provide access and a level playing field to American taxpayers and patients, end the ban on Medicare negotiating directly with drug companies, and allow all Americans to benefit from lower drug prices.

 

“As a two-time breast cancer survivor, I understand that access to quality, affordable medicine and health care is one of the things that keeps our neighbors up at night,” McBath continued. “I came to Congress to reduce the costs of health care. Americans are sick and tired of endless price increases while big pharmaceutical companies make historic profits. We need to find a different way.”
