Sandy Springs, GA  — On Saturday, Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Marietta) hosted students and community members for U.S. Service Academy Day at her Sandy Springs office. This event provided an opportunity for students to hear from U.S. Service Academy representatives and learn more about the congressional nomination process.

“Many servicemembers from the Sixth District and across the country began their careers at one of the United States service academies,” McBath said. “These academies have helped shape our military and our country into the nation we live today. I am proud to work with our local students who hope to attend these prestigious institutions and I commend our applicants in their commitment to serving our country.”

Rep. McBath may nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant academy slot allotted to the Sixth District. Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. The deadline to submit applications is October 6, 2019.
