Sandy Springs, GA – Today, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) responded to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling against the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate. McBath highlighted the devastating impact that this ruling could have on the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions, including 461,000 Georgians who could lose coverage.
“This ruling is another example of the attempts to take accessible, affordable care away from millions. If the Affordable Care Act is struck down, almost half a million Georgians could lose their coverage, devastating families who already pray that a health emergency won’t cripple their pocketbooks. The health and financial security of so many Georgia families rely on the Affordable Care Act’s life-saving protections. This year, my colleagues and I came together on measures to strengthen those protections, make care more affordable, and fight for the health of the American people. I’m extremely concerned that this decision is a step toward undermining the coverage that so many people in our country depend on."
