Washington, DC — Today, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) released the following statement following the passage of H.R. 1, The For the People Act, which included her own bill, The Election Official Integrity Act. McBath is co-sponsor of H.R. 1, which passed the House with a vote of 234 – 193. This legislation was introduced at the beginning of the 116th Congress by Rep. John Sarbanes (D-MD) and was cosponsored by 236 Democratic Members of Congress. This historic reform package will restore the promise of our nation’s democracy by ensuring clean and fair elections, ending the dominance of big money in politics, and ensuring public officials work for the public interest. The bill will now go to the Senate for consideration:

“Today, we passed a historic democracy reform package to strengthen voting rights, ensure transparency in government, and end the era of dark money in politics. I was proud to vote yes on H.R. 1, the For the People Act, to restore Americans’ faith in government and ensure that our government and electoral system is working for the people, not special interests. This Congress has accomplished a great deal in our first few months, and I will continue to fight to bring about meaningful changes for the people of Georgia’s Sixth and for Americans across our nation.”
