The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta is set to receive a $10,000 grant from the federal government to support its musical theater program for actors with special needs.

The National Endowment for the Arts grant supports the MJCCA's Jerry's Habima Theatre.

"Everyone in our community deserves to pursue what they love. Jerry's Habima Theatre is the only musical theater company in Georgia for actors with special needs, and it's an important part of making sure the arts are accessible for all," U.S. Rep Lucy McBath said in a statement announcing the grant. "I am grateful to see grant funding going toward an organization and program that is so meaningful and inclusive."

McBath’s district includes Dunwoody, where the MJCCA is located.

The grant is part of the first round of 2020 grants issued by the Arts Endowment. The agency is “proud to support projects in Georgia’s Sixth District,” Arts Endowment chairman Mary Anne Carter said.

Jerry's Habima Theatre has performed to sold-out audiences of 2,000 people annually for 28 seasons, the MJCCA said.

"This program is a jewel in the Marcus JCC's proverbial crown," CEO Jared Powers said in a statement.
