Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06), as part of her “Funding for Families” Week, announced more than $146 million in funding for colleges, universities, and students in Georgia’s Sixth District. The funding will go toward providing a high quality education and better opportunities to local students and give local institutions relief from the financial fallout following the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the second announcement of support coming to Georgia’s Sixth District through McBath’s work this week. Yesterday, McBath announced the Child Tax Credit as part of her “Funding For Families” week of action to help Georgians receive the resources they’re entitled to as part of the American Rescue Plan.

“This is more funding for our families, strengthening education for our children and our students, providing more opportunities for college graduates, and attracting innovative businesses to the district,” said McBath. “During this crucial time in the lives of our children, we must continue to keep the best interests of our students at heart, and I am proud we are able to provide the critical support they deserve.”

The colleges and universities in Georgia’s Sixth District receiving funding under the American Rescue Plan are:

  • Georgia State University: $142,477,982
  • Oglethorpe University: $3,712,120

Almost half of this funding provided to the institutions is to be distributed to students facing hunger, homelessness, or other hardships. Students in need should contact their institutions for more information about how they can apply for an emergency grant.
