Sandy Springs, GA — Yesterday, Congresswoman Lucy McBath kicked off the August District Work Period with a discussion among small business leaders in DeKalb County. The event, hosted by Katerina Taylor, President and CEO of the DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce, was held at Corporate Environmental Risk Management (CERM), an environmental engineering and program management firm in Tucker, Georgia.
“I want to thank Katerina and the entire DeKalb small business community for convening today’s discussion,” McBath said. “I was grateful to hear from so many representatives of the thriving business community here in Georgia’s sixth district. I look forward to championing more legislative priorities that will deliver more federal dollars and resources to the district and ensure our small businesses have the tools they need to succeed.”

During the first seven months of the 116th Congress, Rep. McBath championed several initiatives that will help new businesses, including an amendment that will increase the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) fund by $2 million. The CDFI fund provides financial assistance to businesses that have traditionally lacked access to financing. These loans assist businesses in the startup phase and better position them to secure additional financing in the future.
In addition to increasing the CDFI fund, Congresswoman McBath voted to support a $1.32 billion appropriation to career and technical education (CTE), ensuring that businesses have a pipeline of students who are prepared to enter in-demand jobs immediately upon graduation.
Most recently, Congresswoman McBath introduced H.R. 3986, the Child Care Protection Improvement Act of 2019. This bipartisan legislation will work to keep our children safe while increasing productivity for small businesses by ensuring that employees have improved access to quality childcare. H.R. 3986 will address barriers in completing background checks for childcare providers.
