Marietta, GA — Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) hosted the third in her series of county-focused Community Conversation Town Halls this evening for residents of Cobb County. The call was a public space to answer questions and discuss topics important to Cobb County and Georgia’s Sixth District. Nearly a thousand residents joined the call, which was the seventh interactive town hall McBath has hosted this year.
“This has been a wonderful series of conversations with the residents of the three counties in our district, and a great way for all of us to gather virtually. Thank you all for your honest questions, which are so important to our community,” said McBath. “Know that I hear you and I will continue working on your behalf to keep our communities safe and our families healthy. I’m inspired by the way our friends and neighbors have come together to help one another. The heartwarming stories from so many in our community about the kindness and compassion that has been extended in these very challenging times makes me truly hopeful.”
Topics discussed during the event included the recent memorial service for Georgia Representative John Lewis, the ongoing pandemic, health care for veterans, the mental and physical health of children, the 2020 Census, and the continuing difficulties many small businesses face. Rep. McBath also shared details of recent legislation to invest over $500 million in the Centers for Disease Control to update their data systems and help prevent public health crises.
Joining the call were Irene Barton, Executive Director of the Cobb Collaborative; Dr. Jennifer Smith, a board member of the GA Psychological Association and the Georgia Psychological Foundation; and Charisse Davis, Cobb County School Board Member for District Post 6.
Previous webinars and remote town halls with local experts have focused on small business loans, strategies for working, educating, and looking after loved ones from home, mental health, caring for veterans with dementia, updates from the Social Security Administration, and information on the COVID-19 virus.
