Sandy Springs, GA — Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) hosted the first of three county-focused Community Conversation Town Halls this evening for residents of DeKalb County. The call served as a place to answer questions and discuss topics including the 2020 Census, the ongoing pandemic, the safety of teachers and students across the state, and the continuing economic difficulty many hard-working Georgians and small businesses face. Nearly two thousand community members joined the call, where McBath provided additional updates on her recent work in Congress.
“Throughout this month, I’ll have the chance to safely gather with neighbors from all three counties in Georgia’s Sixth District to answer questions and discuss ways we can help one another during this time. I’ve been inspired by our community and the way neighbors have truly stood up for and helped one another,” said McBath. “These times have cast a shadow over the lives of so many, and I’m filled with hope to see the kindness and compassion of our friends and neighbors. I thank all who attended for their time and thoughtful questions.”
Joining Rep. McBath were Dr. Rob Schreiner, President of the Wellstar Medical Group and Executive Vice President of the Wellstar Health System; Bernita Smith, Program Manager for DeKalb Counts 2020; and Deborah Jones, President of the Organization of DeKalb Educators and a member of the Georgia Association of Educators. This was the fourth interactive community call McBath has hosted this year. Previous webinars and remote town halls with local experts have focused on small business loans, strategies for working, educating, and looking after loved ones from home, mental health, caring for veterans with dementia, updates from the Social Security Administration, and information on the COVID-19 virus. Those who were unable to attend are encouraged to visit Representative McBath’s coronavirus resources webpage or sign up for her newsletter to receive updates about the ongoing pandemic, as well as future events.
