Duluth, GA — During the 2024 Memorial Day District Work Period, Congresswoman Lucy McBath met with six recipients of Community Project Funding, all of which serve Georgia’s Seventh Congressional District. McBath was personally responsible for requesting funding for four of the six Community Project Funding opportunities and voted in support of budgets that authorized all six of these projects. The successful funding requests focused on victims of sexual and domestic violence, serving the Latino community in Gwinnett County and the greater Atlanta metro region, and environmental and public safety support for local government.

On Tuesday, McBath hosted leadership from Wellspring Living. In 2022, McBath announced a successful $245,560 Community Project Funding request she made for workforce services for victims of sexual exploitation and violence to increase employment opportunities and improve economic outcomes. Later in the week, she visited Mosaic Georgia. Mosaic was a 2022 recipient of a Community Project Funding request that supports intervention, care, and services for youth and adult victims of sexual and domestic violence. McBath also led a letter to the Department of Justice in support of a $600,000 Legal Assistance for Victims grant that was awarded to Mosaic in 2023.
Wednesday’s visits highlighted organizations that serve the Latino community in Gwinnett and the greater Atlanta metro region. In Norcross, McBath met with leadership from Ser Familia and toured the new Corners Outreach Community Center. In 2022, Ser Familia was a recipient of a Community Project Funding request to help provide social services to Latino children and families. Also in 2022, McBath made a Community Project Funding request for $1,050,000 to help fund the Corners Outreach Community Center. Since opening the new facility, Corners Outreach has announced plans to lease office space to United Way of Greater Atlanta and ViewPoint Health in order to better serve the families who interact with Corners Outreach.
On Thursday, McBath spent the morning with Lilburn Mayor Johnny Crist, Chief of Police Chris Dusik, and city leadership. In March of this year, McBath announced two Community Project Funding Awards that impact the city of Lilburn: $907,047 for the Camp Creek Bank Stabilization Project, which will stabilize creek banks and reestablish stream viewing and engagement areas along the Camp Creek Greenway Trail; and $900,000 for the Tri City Connect Project, a multi-jurisdictional crime fighting initiative involving the cities of Lilburn, Snellville, and Lawrenceville. She also led a letter to the Department of Justice in support of a $125,000 COPS Hiring Program grant that was awarded to the City of Lilburn in November of 2023.
