Sandy Springs, GA – Today, Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Marietta) held a health care roundtable to discuss issues facing providers, patients, and advocates in the Sixth District. Today’s conversation followed a productive week in Congress where legislation was passed to protect Americans with pre-existing conditions and lower prescription drug costs.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from residents of Georgia’s Sixth for an honest conversation about what matters most to our neighbors: health care. We must continue our work to improve and strengthen health care for Georgians, and we must defend the vital protections and programs that protect the health and wellbeing of families across our nation,” said Rep. McBath. “Thank you to the health care providers, patients, and health advocates for joining me today and for all of your work to ensure our community has access to the care that they need. I look forward to continuing the conversation.”

In her first months in Congress, Rep. McBath has taken action to protect care and lower costs for thousands of Georgians. McBath’s MORE Health Education Act to reverse funding cuts to education, marketing, and outreach efforts under the Affordable Care Act was included in the stabilization package that was introduced in March. Most recently, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 987, The Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, which included Rep. McBath’s amendment to ensure future pharmacists have materials on generic drugs and biosimilar biological products and the MORE Health Education Act that Rep. McBath introduced earlier this year. McBath spoke on the House floor in support of the legislation and is an original cosponsor of the bill.

Healthcare is a top legislative priority for McBath, who is a two-time breast cancer survivor. McBath is a co-founder of the Black Maternal Health Caucus, which aims to address the health disparities for mothers of color, and a vice-chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. She sits on the House Education and Labor and House Judiciary Committees.
