McBath Hosts Fulton County Community Conversation Town Hall

The month of July has included a similar event for DeKalb County and will include one for Cobb County next week.

Sandy Springs, GA — Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) hosted the second of three county-focused Community Conversation Town Halls this evening for residents of Fulton County. The call served as a forum to answer questions and discuss topics including the ongoing pandemic, resources at the Centers for Disease Control, mental and physical health, the 2020 Census, and the continuing economic difficulty many hard-working Georgians and small businesses face. Rep. McBath took the time to share some memories of the late Rep. John Lewis, a colleague and personal hero of hers for many years, and share updates on her recent work in Congress. More than a thousand Sixth District residents joined the call.

“These calls are a wonderful chance to safely gather with neighbors in Georgia’s Sixth District to answer questions and discuss ways we can help one another during this time. I’ve been inspired by our community and the way neighbors have truly stood up for and helped one another,” said McBath. “These times have cast a shadow over the lives of so many, and I’m filled with hope to see the kindness and compassion of our friends and neighbors. I thank all who attended for their time and thoughtful questions.”

Joining the call was Dr. Jennifer Smith, a board member of the GA Psychological Association and the Georgia Psychological Foundation; Fran Calhoun, Manager of External and Intergovernmental Affairs for Fulton County, who is currently leading the county’s Census efforts; and Edward Mitchell, Partnership Specialist at Fulton’s U.S. Census Bureau.

This was the fifth interactive community call McBath has hosted this year. Previous webinars and remote town halls with local experts have focused on small business loans, strategies for working, educating, and looking after loved ones from home, mental health, caring for veterans with dementia, updates from the Social Security Administration, and information on the COVID-19 virus. Those who were unable to attend are encouraged to visit Representative McBath’s coronavirus resources webpage or sign up for her newsletter to receive updates about the ongoing pandemic, as well as future events.
