Sandy Springs, GA — Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Marietta) is announcing the return of her McBath Summer Storytime program today. Each Sunday at 7:30pm, families and community members are encouraged to tune in on McBath’s Facebook page to watch, read along, and share the joy of reading with the children in their lives. Last summer, McBath hosted hundreds of children, families, and community members through ten installments of the inaugural series. McBath kicked off the program over the holiday weekend with a first installment that has garnered hundreds of views.
“I remember how special it was reading a bedtime story with my son, Jordan, as he slowly drifted off to sleep. I really cherished those memories as he grew into such a bright young man,” said McBath. “As we continue to adjust back to normal this summer, I want to provide a few moments each week to share the love of reading with the youngest ones in our community. I am so excited to continue another summer of stories and provide a weekly opportunity for our children, and their parents, to tune in and read a book along with me.”
Continuing to read during the summer is crucial for children. Many students lose some of their learning gains from the previous year over the course of the summer. According to Scholastic, students stand to lose nearly half more of their academic skills during the school break due to the “summer slide.” McBath’s Summer Storytime series encourages students and families to continuing exploring the joys of reading together.
