Sandy Springs, GA — This Sunday at 7:30pm, Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Marietta) will conclude her “McBath Summer Storytime” virtual reading program with I’ll Love You Forever, the 10th book she has read for children this year. Hundreds of children, families, and community members have tuned in over the course of the summer to read along together. The program began in 2020 as a way to safely continue fostering reading and learning during the school break. Tune in on Sunday here.

“I remember how special it was reading a bedtime story with my son, Jordan, as he slowly drifted off to sleep. I really cherished those memories as he grew into such a bright young man,” said McBath. “As we continued to adjust back to normal this summer, I wanted to provide a few moments each week to share the love of reading with the youngest ones in our community. I am so grateful for all those who sent along positive messages each week as we provided an opportunity for our children, and their parents, to tune in and read a book.”

Continuing to read during the summer is crucial for children. Many students lose some of their learning gains from the previous year over the course of the summer. According to Scholastic, students stand to lose nearly half more of their academic skills during the school break from the “summer slide.” McBath’s Summer Storytime series encouraged students and families to continuing exploring the joys of reading together.
