Marietta, GA — Last night, on the first day of advance Child Tax Credit payments, Representative Lucy McBath held a town hall to discuss the impact of the historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit. Joining McBath was Stacey Heller, a Johns Creek resident and mother of two. Stacey shared her own family’s story of navigating the uncertainty and unpredictability of the COVID-19 pandemic and outlined how she plans to use her Child Tax Credit payments to pay down debt and prepare her children for the upcoming school year. Footage from the evening’s event is available by clicking here.
“Across the Sixth District, thousands of families woke up yesterday with more money in their bank account,” McBath said. “Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, help is here for hard-working American families. As a mother, I know how crucial these payments will be for families who may still be hurting from a job loss or a pay cut. I was proud to support the expansion of the Child Tax Credit and cannot wait to see how families across our community benefit from these historic tax cuts for hard-working Americans.”
Beginning yesterday, eligible families began receiving advance direct payments of the Child Tax Credit. Eligible families can receive up to $300 a month per child for children ages 0 to 5 and up to $250 a month per child for children ages 6 to 17. Eligible families are encouraged to be on the lookout for these tax cuts, as many taxpayers have already begun to receive direct payments as early as yesterday. Families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 and who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments should go online and use the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool to sign up today.
Any Sixth District resident who is in need of casework assistance with the Internal Revenue Service or any other federal agency is encouraged to contact McBath’s Sandy Springs District Office by calling (470) 773-6330 or visiting mcbath.house.gov/help-with-a-federal-agency.
