Washington, DC — Following a recent article documenting the alarming increase in gun sales slipping through background check loopholes, Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06) released the following statement:

“A majority of Americans agree: they want common sense legislation to help save lives. Just a week ago, the GAO released a report that tells us the majority of mass school shootings in the last decade occurred in the South, in communities that look very much like Georgia’s Sixth District. It is time for the Senate to take up common sense legislation that will help protect American families. We in the House have passed H.R.8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, to help keep guns out of the hands of those who can’t legally own them. We’ve passed H.R.1112, a bill that would close the Charleston loophole, so that those who shouldn’t have a gun don’t slip through the cracks. It is long past time that the Senate take up these pieces of legislation, legislation that most Americans agree with, and legislation that will help keep our children and our families safe.”
